Candidate Information

Our country is founded on the actions of the strong and humble patriots that have stepped up to serve this great country. We are grateful you are taking an interest in serving our community by running for office. 

Resources can be found at the Washington State Secretary of State Elections website, including campaign regulations and a Washington State Candidates Guide to the 2025 Ballot and General Elections Voters’ pamphlet. It also provides information on the Public Disclosure Commission’s registration and reporting basicsWashington State’s Public Disclosure Commission Candidates site provides guidance on actions that need to be taken once you have filed.

The BCRP has a Candidate Support Committee to help, as well. For every election, we endorse and support candidates that will uphold the great values of this country.

Every year, in the first full week of May, the Benton County Auditor’s Office accepts filings for all countywide and local offices. Online filing opens at 8 a.m. on that Monday and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday. Races that have more than two contestants will have a run-off in the August Primary. Those that have 2 or fewer candidates funning will proceed to the General Election.

Benton County provides a Guide to Elections and Candidate Filing pamphlet. It shares information on filing, instructions for writing candidate statements for the Voter’s Pamphlet. You will also see information about campaign sign rules, duties of elected officials and specific information about each office on the ballot.
