Candidate Information

Our country is founded on the actions of the strong and humble patriots that have stepped up to serve this great country. We are grateful you are taking an interest in serving our community by running for office.

Washington State Secretary of State Elections, the Public Disclosure Commission, and Benton County Elections provide excellent guidance and resources on how to file for office and any follow-on actions. See Important Links below.

The BCRP has a Candidate Support Committee to help, as well. For every election, we endorse and support candidates that will uphold the great values of this country.

In the first full week of May, the Benton County Auditor’s Office accepts filings for all countywide and local offices. Online filing opens at 8 a.m. on that Monday and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday. Races that have more than two contestants will have a run-off in the August Primary. Those that have 2 or fewer candidates running will proceed to the General Election.

Benton County’s Guide to Elections and Candidate Filing pamphlet provides information on filing and  instructions for writing candidate statements for the Voter’s Pamphlet. It also provides information on  campaign sign rules, duties of elected officials, and specific information on each office on the ballot.
